"Our family has been in HVAC manufacturing for 25 years. We ran on second-hand machines and manual labour for too long. In early 2024 we committed to a full rectangular duct line from Preda — the U5 auto line paired with a Pittsburgh lockformer, TDF flange machine, and corner installer.
Installation was smoother than expected. Their engineer walked our technicians through commissioning via video link, and we were producing finished duct on day three. The line now runs with two operators where we needed six before. Daily output went from 180 m² to 750 m², and the dimensional accuracy cut our on-site installation time by roughly 25%.
What truly sold us was the after-sales. Eight months in, a proximity switch failed on the U5. We emailed Friday afternoon, the replacement arrived Monday morning — free of charge. "Our factory specialises in spiral duct and fittings for the Norwegian and Swedish HVAC market. We were running an old spiral machine and hand-forming every elbow — it was the bottleneck of the whole operation. At the end of 2023 we installed the Preda S5 spiral tubeformer with the hydraulic gorelocker.
The S5 runs 16 hours a day, handling diameters from 100 mm up to 1600 mm. The seam consistency is noticeably better than our old machine. But the game-changer is the gorelocker: one fabricator used to top out at 20 elbows a day. Now the machine produces one every three minutes — over 120 per shift — and the angles are accurate enough that fitters on site stop asking for adjustments.
When we switched to stainless steel spiral, we struggled with the feed pressure. We messaged Preda at midnight our time — seven hours ahead of them. Their engineer was online by 6 a.m. China time, remotely connected to our control system, and adjusted the forming parameters within 20 minutes. We've only replaced one cutting blade so far, shipped free. We calculated payback at 11 months."
